Where do I begin....

So I have been in my new house for over a week now.  It has been a time to get acquainted with the new structure and neighbourhood.  I already feel at home.  Maybe this is because several years ago I lived a 5 minute walk away or maybe it because I feel I fit in this neighbourhood.  I was drawn to this area for its connection to bike paths, the verdant Leslie Street Spit and the interesting shops and cafes that have popped up on Queen Street over the last decade and.... oh yes the commercial/industrial flavour left over from years gone by.

It is good to be on location as I was spinning my wheels sketching home renovations over the last few months while waiting for the house to close.  My designs continue to change as I meet and speak with neighbours and contracts who shed light on the context my little house finds itself in.

The house is over 100 years old and would have originally been a worker's cottage supporting industry in the area or on the city side of the Don River.  It is the middle of three row houses all of which have been expanded in the back probably 50 years ago.  The lot is 15 feet wide and an amazing 130 feet deep.  This makes for a very long house and a very long garage at the back lane.

So I have started this blog for the enjoyment of all you readers and to hold me accountable as a designer and client.  I could go on forever sketching and changing my mind as to what I would like to have and see but the goal is to actually see it realized while making good use of my precious spare time!
